Randomness…

Last week a man was staring at us (little M and myself) in the store. He asked me where little M was from, and even though I knew what he meant, I said the name of the town where we live…
Little kids can’t take any kind of cough medicine or decongestant until they are over four years old. And most of those medications can’t be given to a kid with a history of heart issues even after they are four. So what is a parent to do with a sick kid?

Little M is sick. She is very congested and has a bad cough, and every time she coughs she covers her mouth and says “oh, dear,” or “poooor baby!” It’s precious.
Last night, when I was rocking her before bed, she was coughing, and I said “poor baby.” She reached up and patted my cheek, and said “mama’s here, it’s ok.”
Love that little girl…

When Bella has had bad congestion, we have ran the shower steamy hot and hang out in the bathroom. We have also stuck her in the shower with me. Obviously, it can't be super hot….but I usually take the shower while she sits on the floor of the shower playing with a toy. The steam seems to help open her up and get things draining. That seems to work long enough to make her comfortable to get some rest. We also do lots of Vicks and use a honey based natural cough \”medicine\” from Whole Foods. It is basically expensive honey but you could probably just try a little spoonful. It should help coat her throat. Good luck – its not fun for her or you!Heather

Hope little M is feeling better soon, too. Poor dear one. We too have done the steamy water, warm water, humidifer, vick rub. Wanted to add, you can buy a Spearmint of Peppermint Extract from a Natural Food store or section which can be placed in a part of many Humidifiers which helps to clear clogged mucus. It will not stop it but it helps w/ congestion. When I much older, able to have a bowl of steaming hot water in a bowl, then you place a few drops of the peppermint right in the bowl, place head under towel over bowl, like a tenting effect. This can really help if done a few ties each day. Again, to store away as reference for when older, obviously. There also is a saline spray which I get at Walgreens, for the nose. I have my kids help with it but again, this is a natural option. Good Luck. . . .Feel better soon Miss M!
