Mackenzie Day 2

Mackenzie woke up a little wary of us yesterday, so we gave her a little time to readjust, and after she had downed a bottle, she was ready to play a little. She loves being out and around people…we think we may have a little extrovert on our hands!
We headed down to breakfast, where our girl packed away some serious food. Mackenzie is most definitely not a picky eater, and will try almost anything.

After breakfast we met our guide to go back to the civil affairs office for adoption registration. We were asked questions regarding the adoption process, and how long the process took. We were asked if our child matched up to the information we were given, if we were aware of her heart condition, and did we still want her. We, of course, said yes!

Mackenzie had a couple times yesterday where she grieved quite a bit, but both times she let us hold her and comfort her. The civil affairs office was a sad place for her, and I have never heard such a sad, mournful cry from a child. While I was holding her, she was looking in my eyes and crying, and I could see how sad she was, but I was so grateful that she let me share that with her. We know that grieving is healthy, and while we don’t like to see her sad, we know that grief is a process, and we want to help her through it.

After the civil affairs office, we came back, and I laid down with Mackenzie. She took a long nap, and then we were off again to the securities office, where her picture was taken for her exit visa. We received our official adoption decree, and she is ours!

We ordered dinner in our room, and played with little M for a while. Josh gave her a bath, which she loved! I was so worried about her being afraid of the tub, and bath times being scary, but she would play in the water all night if we let her!

She is quite a girly girl, and loves to have her hair done. She walks around with her comb, and brings us hair clippies to put in her hair (this is why she has two or three in her hair in the pictures)
She likes the bubbles, and brings them to us, but doesn’t want to touch them, as our girl does not like to be messy at all.

It is definitely hard when someone so young has so much grief. It was tough for us as well, but we just held our little girl and let her know we were there for her. Mackenzie is such a cutie and it's wonderful to hear that she is bonding with you all.

Another big day for you all. It is so hard to see your baby grieve. How great that she lets you comfort her, that must be comfort to Mom and Dad as well. She really is such a beautiful girl. How fun to play and put hair clips in her hair:) You all look so happy and a peace.

She is just BEAUTIFUL!!! It brought tears to my eyes, I love the bath pic, you can see her sweet & loving smile. The pic of all of three of you..it's just gorgeous! The grieving will get better with time, by the time you return, she will be giggling and giving you HUGE smiles! And the one thing you have on your side is that she is out going. It really helped us with the grieving, and we did not stay in our shell like a turtle, we just went with the flow and followed Ellie's lead. Enjoy this your trip, you will always treasure this part of the trip ~bonding with just the three of you~

Glad to hear that all is going well and that Mackenzie is bonding to both of you. The grief is hard, but as Debs said, it means she knows love, which is good. She definitely looks happy in the pictures so you guys are doing something right!! 🙂 She is just so adorable!!!

What a super busy and emotional day for all of you! Your family is adjusting wonderfully from the looks and sounds of everything. You are so good (smart) to be aware of her grieving and how to help her through this time. Some people don't understand it and just pass it off as crying, but you are very right, she is grieving and it is all very natural. It's heartbreaking to watch your daughter suffering but it's a really good thing that she is allowing you to hold her and nurture her through it. That kind of opportunity to bond is wonderful for all of you… Congratulations again!

She is so cute I can't stand it! It makes me sad to this she's grieving, so it must break your heart – but it means she was well cared for. We can't wait for you to get back so we can meet her!!! Congratulations!!!
