Lost?
We lose things sometimes. And by we, I mean I. For instance, I can NEVER find the lens cap for my camera. In fact, I lost that little thing a couple months ago, and decided I could live without it. Yes, I know, the camera is safer with the cap on…whatever.
It didn’t matter, because I lost it. Or at least I thought I did. And I’m pretty sure the husband thought I lost it, too. He just never said anything, because he’s gracious like that.
Yesterday, I was moving something around, and I knocked over one of little M’s purses. Amongst all of the things that fell out? One of my bracelets…and the lens cap to my camera! There were many other things in that little purse, some of which were little M’s, and many that were not. There were many little things in that little purse that she found throughout the house.
She has always been a hoarder, our little M. She has also often thrown things away. Is this normal, this hiding and hoarding?
Do all kids do this? When she first came home, instead of playing with her toys, she would pack them in purses and bags, and schlepp them all over the house. She would take them out, and go through them, and then carefully pack them back up, and cart them into another room.
I guess this is something we will keep an eye on…but I would love to know if anyone has any insight into this. I am also glad to have my lens cap back…until I lose it again!

Joanna, this is very normal for my 3 year old boy. He is always packing his toys in backpacks or tins or bags. Just last night he found a gallon size ziploc bag and put a bunch of toys in there, then dumped them out then put them back. repeat, repeat, etc.Of course he goes beyond. He also loves to line his toys up in a PERFECT line. When we were moving into out current house he took all of the canned goods out of the boxes and lined them up in the dining room. it was very impressive!
Totally normal. We have lots of hoarding at our house too. I'm always amazed at what ends up in Josie's special bags, purses and knapsack.
We are still dealing with this five years later….had to have a talk with DD after she brought home one of her teacher's toys…She has cases and purses stashed everywhere with things in them. She doesn't play with them, just likes them put away…where no one else can take them. The down side of being in an orphanage…
I have a 3 year old bio daughter and she is a hoarder. She sounds just like your description of your daughter. Purses full of \”stuff\” she gathers from all over the house. She often says, \”Hold on, I'm just gettin my stuff.\” She won't wear pants without pockets so she can carry stuff. When we went to preschool orientation she wanted to give some of her favorite toys to the teachers to hide so no other kids would get them. Yeah…hoarder!On the other hand, our son (adopted from China 3 months ago) is not a hoarder at all. He has some favorite toys but he's not a \”collector\” of toys.I think it's more or a personality thing. Although, I would think that statistically, more adopted children are \”hoarders\”
