Unexpected…

We have had an unexpected turn of events with our precious tiny P this week… and we are back in the hospital.

Poor tiny P. She just cannot get a break…

At the beginning of the week we noticed that tiny P’s face was swollen. Well, more swollen than usual on one side and her smile was crooked. Later that day we realized that her palate was sagging and she was having trouble swallowing. So, we packed up and headed to Children’s. And given that she had just had a heart catheterization, our baby was promptly admitted.

We had been worried about tiny P’s teeth, and we had an appointment in January in Children’s to get them taken care of… now there will be no need for that appointment.

Tiny P had emergency surgery for a very large abscess, and before she went back, we talked to the dental team with her cardiology team, and it was decided that since she was going into surgery and they would already be in her mouth, they should take care of all her dental work, so they would then be free to focus on her heart without worry.

She went through surgery well, and when she came out, and they called me back to discuss, they said that they’d had to remove many of tiny P’s teeth, because many were abscessed, rotted to the nerves, and crumbling away. They were also able to remove and drain a large abscess.
Poor tiny P… they removed THIRTEEN of her teeth! I didn’t know she had that many. She only has a few left, and will be toothless for a long time.
I am so sad for her to have to go through this, and even more sad that she has been in pain for what must have been a long time.

We are still in the hospital, and anticipate being here for a while longer. Tiny P is having a rough time with recovery. She is still quite swollen from the surgery, but also our girl has a hard time getting fluids out of her body in general… After surgery it is even worse. Her diuretic has been increased from twice to three times a day, and she is still retaining fluid.

Please pray for our baby girl, we would love for her to go home soon!

We will keep your little girl in our thoughts and prayers for speedy healing. Our oldest had to have 8 teeth crowned when she was 3 because they were soft and not healthy. We tried to do it in the dentist's office but that was a bust and we ended up in the hospital. So glad that little P is getting the loving care and nutrients now to make her teeth healthy.
