Mackenzie Day 4

Today was orphanage day, so we got up early, and ate a quick breakfast before heading out with our guide and driver. We were excited that we were allowed to visit the orphanage, but we knew it was going to be a tough time for us, and possibly for Mackenzie, as well. Our plan was that if she had a tough time, I would go and sit in the van with her, and Josh would stay and take pictures, and talk with the director and nannies. But everything went much better than we could have hoped for.
We were very nervous about how Mackenzie would do, whether she would be upset to be back, or be so happy that she was devastated to leave again. She was very happy to see the woman who was her primary caregiver, whom they call the grandma, and the grandma was so happy to see her, as well. It was very emotional, and I felt bad for the grandma, who was so sad.

We had brought a lot of food, drinks, and treats for the kids, and Mackenzie enjoyed giving them to all her friends. She came back to me several times to be picked up, and waved goodbye to everyone when we left. We went outside, and saw some more of the babies from her floor on the playground, and visited with them a bit.

Then we waited for a little girl to be brought over from one of the other buildings to meet us. There is another family traveling soon for her, and we wanted to get pictures of this cutie for them

We wrapped up with a late lunch, walked by the water show for Mackenzie, and then headed back to the hotel for a nap. We have had some brief bouts of grieving today, but she has also opened up a lot more tonight, and has been giggling, and talking up a storm. We are so grateful for this little girl!

I'm glad things are going so well! She has the cutest expressions on that precious little face and I agree, that little girl is stylin' in China.

So wonderful that you made the trip back to the SWI, I think it actually helps when a child can see her Aunties again and see their approval of you.I spot a Half the Sky shirt, they do such fantastic work, they work with our daughter's SWI and I believe that their efforts made a huge difference in her life.I know I've said it a zillion times but your baby girl is just so beautiful and that outfit, gorgeous!!!!

I am just loving following your journey! We also were able to visit our Shasha's SWI and it was a treasure! It is part of her history and she knows her story from top to bottom! She talks freely about her nannies all the time and how much they love her! And the Terra Cotta Warriors are awesome! I am so jealous you saw them!
