I Knew It…

My dear sweet little M,

You came to us twenty months ago so small, and full of fear. You were very sure that you did not want us, and you did NOT like men.
I think maybe the only man you knew was a doctor who came to your orphanage. All of your nannies were women, no it was only natural that you preferred women. Having a man come into your life was quite the shock, and you let us know it.
But your Daddy was not just any man. This was YOUR Daddy. This man had waited so long just for you, and had loved you way before he even met you. This man, your Daddy, had prayed for, and looked forward to you for years.
He was so patient with you. Your screams of protest when I left you just to go to the bathroom let your feelings be known, but your Daddy was so patient, understanding, and loving.
I carried you a lot, but I couldn’t carry you all the time…my back wouldn’t let me, and your daddy was happy to carry you. He would feed you chocolate and other sweet things to keep you happy, until one day, he didn’t have to anymore, and you were ok with being carried.
You also soon discovered that your new Daddy was pretty fun to play with, and he likes cars and legos, just like you do!
And then one day, it almost seemed like it happened overnight, you decided you wanted your Daddy. When he picked you up, you hugged him back and snuggled into his hug. When you fell and got hurt, instead of running to me, you wanted your Daddy.
I don’t know what it was exactly, that made you let your Daddy in. But your Daddy never pressured you, or forced your love. He patiently and quietly loved on you, until one day…
You loved him back!
Now, you ask about him all day when he’s at work, and you are giddy with excitement when he comes home. You love the weekends, because Daddy is home, and you love that he puts you to bed at night. You are still wary of men, but you adore your Daddy.
Your Daddy loves you with all of his heart, and how could you resist such love?
You love him now.
I knew you would.
