Five…

Dear little M,
Today you are five years old! I have never been more in awe of anyone as I am of you… you are one of the most amazing people I know, and I feel so blessed to be your mommy!

You have come so far in the two and a half years you’ve been home…your first birthday home was a quiet affair, and was almost more than you could handle. But this year, your fifth birthday, you know all there is to know about birthdays. You know this is your day, your week, your month, and you are living it up!

You are one of the strongest people I know… you have had to be strong, and resilient, to go through all that you have, and still be the happy, sweet girl that you are. Never let go of that strength, that resilience. I know you will handle whatever comes your way with your strength and your precious sense of humor.

When you were four, you’ve told me, you were a little kid, and you were happy to be my baby girl. Now that you are turning five, you remind me continually that when you are five, you will no longer be my baby girl…you will be a big girl, and that is what I should call you.

You are one of the funniest people I know. You love to make your daddy and me laugh, you enjoy life, and your laugh is contagious and precious to me. Always keep that sense of humor, baby girl. Your sense of humor will see you through good times and bad times.

Your sweet, sensitive little spirit inspires me, and sometimes moves me to tears. I want you to always be as compassionate as you are now. Always care about others, and be as empathetic and loving as you are now.
You are so loving, and your precious smile makes my day every time I see it.

It is your birthday! Today is your day, and I can’t wait to celebrate you!
For this momma, though, this day is a little bittersweet. I love seeing you grow, but I often feel like you are growing so fast, and part of me wants to keep you little… but I know you will keep growing, and time will fly. I want you to always remember though, that no matter how big you are, whether you are five or fifteen, you will always, always be my precious baby girl.
