Can You Hear Me Now?

Little M had an appointment today with an ENT. I haven’t discussed her microtia much on this blog, mostly because we have been caught up with all of the heart stuff, but also because I didn’t have much knowledge about it. All I knew was that the form of her ear was missing on the right side. We didn’t know if her hearing was intact in that ear, or not, or if she even had an ear canal at all. Now it is time to see some ear doctors, and figure out what our plan is for little M’s ear, and help with her hearing.

The good news is that little M has an ear canal. It’s small, but it’s there. She will have many more doctor appointments in the near future, starting next week to see if there is a working ear drum, or any ear drum at all.
After that she will have an ABR (auditory brainstem response), which is a neurological screening test used to measure hearing loss. Depending on how that goes, she will then have a sedated hearing test, and a cat scan to see what sort of inner workings are in her ear.
We want the very best for her, and we want her to be able to hear everything that is going on in her world. The truth is we think our little girl is pretty darn perfect, and we love her more than anything.

I hope all goes well with Mackenzie's hearing tests. I just look at her face and she just melts my heart. I know what it's like to have to take your child to a doctor and have them hooked up to machines and be examined by complete strangers. It's hard to watch your child go through that.I will keep Mackenzie in my prayers. She is such a sweet little girl and I hope you get the test results that you want.

Your sweet daughter continues to be in my prayers. Like your family, we took care of our Josie's heart first, before we jumped into hand surgery for her extra digit. Thinking of you.

Great news on Mackenzies's ear drum. She has done so well with her language aquisition (primary language and now English) so any extra or restored hearing ability will be a great bonus. She is so lovely.

Too funny. I posted a week or so ago about my daughter's hearing (also microtia of the right ear, but no ear canal) and called it by the same title. Only, I was drawing a spiritual parallel to some of the physical stuff I'd talked about earlier in the same week…..We're a little further into the education and hearing therapy journey, if you ever want to connect. Cute pics – she's a doll!
