Week Two...

We were so close...

Little M was doing SO well at school. At home, not so much, but at school she was a rock star...anything for that smiley face on her sticker chart.

Last week (the first day of school), she entered school through her classroom door, and we stayed until she got inside.

This week (and from now on), all the students entered through the main doors of the school, and go through the school to their classrooms. No parents are allowed to walk their kids inside, so the kids are on their own once they get inside until they get to their classroom.

Little M owned this... She didn't bat an eye, and by the end of the week she was marching in like it was her job, and didn't even look back at me.

This week she was on top of her game, and she started out strong. The holiday maybe threw her for a bit of a loop, and we had company and lots of busyness, but she was excited for school on Tuesday. Wednesday was good for her, and she was a happy, but more sassy, girl when I picked her up...

Thursday there was no school, and we had a good morning, even though she cried because her feeling were hurt over the fact that we did not have blueberry muffins. Hmmmm.  But by late afternoon she had been in trouble several times, and by evening she was a hot mess... she was emotional, and nothing made her happy. Finally, I just took her upstairs, and rocked her while she cried for over an hour.
This is what I have been waiting for. The first week and a half were going so well, I almost thought we might somehow miss this...but it came.

All of the change finally caught up with her, and she was just not able to cope any more. She fell into an exhausted sleep, and had another good day at school yesterday. Thankfully, she was less of an emotional wreck all afternoon, but she was not herself, and has been tense since.

We will see what next week brings us. I am relieved that while our girl seems to be having a tough time, and is a little mess at home, she is at least pulling it together for school, and seems to genuinely love going...
This past week, after school one day, I asked her who she had played with that day, and if she had made any new friends. Little M answered "mommy, school is not just about playing with friends, it's about learning. Ask me what I learned!" Crazy girl... I do love her so much!

Bring it on, week three! We're ready for you!

Rory does really well at school as well, but then falls apart at home. It does get better as she gets accustomed to the new schedule and earlier mornings.

Happening here as well. Max is doing great at school, but super clingy, cranky, and even waking up during the night. Hoping he settles soon.

Transitions are so hard. My slogan each school year is that it just needs to be October. By then, we're all used to our routines and expectations.

Best wishes with week 3!

It must be something about Thursday? All last week I had a hard time with all the changes happening in our lives. But I held it together. Until Thursday when I had to shut myself away and just have a good long cry. Friday was much better. Sometimes we just need to do that. Most parents forget kids have those times too. Good for you to always be so in step with your kiddos emotions.
