Cowardly Clyde

Little M goes through phases with books. She only has one or two favorites at a time...and we must read them ALL the time, over and over, until she has them memorized. And once she has her book completely memorized, and we have read it a bajillion times, she moves on to the next book, and we exhaust that one. Occasionally, we revisit the old ones, but she is always obsessed with her current fave.

Right now, her favorite book is Cowardly Clyde, about a cowardly horse who has to become brave to save his knight from a monster.
She makes the husband read this very long book every night before bed, and I hear about Clyde all day, and how he became brave.
In the book, Clyde the horse summons up his courage to go back into the forest he ran out of to retrieve the knight who has fallen from the horse. He saves the knight from harm by biting the monster's tail.

We were in church on Sunday, when little M started crying quietly. I asked her what was wrong, and she showed me her arm...
Where she had bitten herself.
Seriously.

I didn't know what to say because seriously, what do you say to a child who has just been bitten by herself? At first, I was worried that she was hurting herself to get my attention...

but after we asked her about it a little more (she was embarrassed) she proclaimed that she was "just like Clyde...so brave!"

Oh, little M... please no more biting yourself.

Is it OK to laugh here? Just B/C I am not the one sitting next to little M in Church trying to puzzle out the situation? Just love how you write a tale Joanna. Little Miss M can capture my heart at any given moment with her dear ways of learning, this particular time, with become brave. Bless her heart...
